The Grand Pier in Weston-Super-Mare, twice devastated by fire, is due to reopen tomorrow complete with a Fire Sprinkler System.

The pier has lead a chequered life since its initial opening in 1904.  The theatre at the pier’s south end was destroyed by fire in 1930 when uninsured.  After a multi-million pound revamp in 2008, which unfortunately did not include provision of a Fire Sprinkler System, it was completely destroyed in an inferno barely 5 months later. Now, the pier will lead a sustained and trouble-free life. Co-owner Michelle Michael, says “The new pier has a full sprinkler system in all areas, a fire suppression system directly above all heat source catering equipment, its own fire hoses on site and its own fire hydrant to prevent any further fires”.
