Wales is to become the first country in the world to have legislation making it mandatory to install sprinklers in all new build homes following the success of the Legislative Competence Order passed by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Meanwhile, the deaths of three children in a house fire in East Yorkshire have prompted calls for similar law changes in the rest of the UK.

Chairman of the Chief Fire Officers’ Association, Ian Cox, said: “It is vital that this legislation not only gets passed in Wales, but that it is considered for domestic properties in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.”
