Ransomes Jacobsen manufacture turf care equipment and commercial grass cutting machinery and contracted Fire Security to provide a fire prevention solution within a distribution warehouse with four large mezzanine platforms.

Following a consultation phase, the entire installation, including the water supply, had to be designed and installed to comply with US FM Global Standards to meet the customer’s US based insurance providers requirements.

Ransomes Jacobsen operates from a modern, highly developed production facility and dedicated warehouse, supplying a wide range of customers worldwide.

Fire Security designed a solution for Ransomes Jacobsen that not only fulfilled all the required fire legislation, but could also be installed without affecting normal operations within the warehouse itself.

The design provided for over 1,100 sprinkler heads covering the 7,700m2 building, with both ordinary and extra hazard protection with a roof density of 24 mm/min.

Water is supplied from a 1,000m3 cylindrical steel tank by a diesel fire pump rated at 7,500 l/min @ 7.5 bar feeding into two valve sets.

Ransomes Jacobsen’s site works engineer David Stokes said: “We chose Fire Security because they were a local company that was able to give us a total solution.

“They were prompt, efficient, always helpful and complied with our company safety rules at all times. Their workmanship was of excellent quality and we were pleased with the completed installation and they were within budget.”
